interiors & exteriors

My current body of landscape paintings has evolved as a critical response to my previous artistic trajectory. Initially, my practice was rooted in traditional landscape art, heavily influenced by the impressionist style. Despite achieving a measure of success within this conventional framework, I experienced an intrinsic sense of dissatisfaction. A hiatus from my practice provided the necessary distance to reassess my creative objectives and return with a renewed focus on uncovering a more profound and authentic mode of expression.

To facilitate this evolution, I deliberately eschewed the conventional constraints that had previously governed my work—namely, the rigid adherence to naturalistic tones, linear perspective, and proportional accuracy. This conscious departure allowed me to engage with the landscape not as a visual subject to be replicated, but as an emotive experience to be interpreted. Through this process, I produced a series of works that articulated a more genuine artistic voice.

Simultaneously, I began a parallel series exploring memories from my formative years, spanning early childhood to adolescence. This period holds particular significance for me, as it was the time when I felt the most free and confident. Without reference material to depict these scenes, I relied solely on memory, which led to a pivotal discovery:  memory serves as a more powerful reference than life itself. It fosters an intimate, emotional connection to the work, liberating it from the limitations imposed by realism.

These two series, created in tandem, represent a purity of emotion brought to life through vivid color, expressive lines, and abstracted forms. My work is not an attempt to capture what life looks like, but rather what it feels like.
